Spazi d’eccezione è un libro (Milieu Edizioni), un meeting e una mostra. Nasce dall’incontro di due collettivi, S.a.L.E.-Docks e Escuela Moderna. Unisce oltre sessanta artisti, architetti, performer e attivisti. Il progetto intende analizzare la spazializzazione dello stato d’eccezione, i suoi effetti sullo spazio urbano e sulla vita che lo attraversa. L’operazione non si riduce però, a prendere in considerazione il fenomeno ben noto della normalizzazione dello stato d’eccezione quale strumento disciplinare, come è accaduto ad esempio a Parigi dopo gli attentati o come accade nei campi profughi della Balkan Route. Abbiamo invece voluto suggerire, oltre lo stato di sicurezza che pare sostituirsi allo stato di diritto, l’esistenza di quelle che abbiamo definito eccezioni costituenti, dove il termine eccezione si carica di senso positivo, diventa obiezione nei confronti del governo securitario e della tanatopolitca, dando vita a modelli altri di convivenza. Questo accade con il confederalismo democratico in Rojava, accade in Europa con l’esplosione di movimenti sociali, le occupazioni, le esperienze di istituzionalità del comune, accade a Detroit nella crisi dell’immobiliare e in moltissimi altri spazi d’eccezione che abbiamo voluto raccogliere nel nostro libro.

Spaces of Exception is a book (Milieu Publishers), a meeting and an exhibition. It is the result of the encounter of two collectives, S.a.L.E-Docks and Escuela Moderna. It puts together more than sixty artists, architects, performers and activists. The project aims at analyzing the spatialization of the state of exception, its effects on the urban space and the life that moves within it. The project does not limit itself to the consideration of the normalization of the state of exception as a disciplinary instrument, as in the case of Paris after the terrorist attacks or as it happens in the refugee camps on the Balkan Route. Instead we want to suggest that beyond the state of security that seems to replace the rule of law, we see something that we call constituent excepitons, where this term is meant to be a positive one, and it becomes an objection against the securitarian government of our lives and thanatopolitics. Examples of this are visible in the region of Rojava with its democratic confederalism, in Europe whith the explosion of new social movements, occupations and experiences of institutionality of the commons, in Detroit after the crisis of the real-estate, and in many other spaces of exception around the world.

“Materialismo dello scarto” in architettura

Rural Studio, Recetas Urbanas, Architetture Precarie, Anupama Kundoo, Rebiennale, Caracol, Asc, Cso Rivolta.
Università, lavoratori precari, cooperative, assemblee indipendenti, studi di architettura, costruttori freelance, centri sociali e collettivi si incontrano per lavorare ad un programma. Che cosa hanno in comune? Il materiale. Ogni anno grandi eventi internazionali producono tonnellate di scarti “nuovi di zecca” che non possono essere riutilizzati a causa di leggi e burocrazia. Meravigliose installazioni diventano spazzatura dopo pochi mesi di vita. Qual’è la soluzione? Essere dentro e contro. Piccoli gruppi indipendenti trovano un punto d’accesso alle istituzioni e cominciano una ricerca para-istituzionale in loco per superare la fabbrica capitalistica della demolizione. Alcuni artisti e architetti diventano parte attiva di questo processo e entrano in contatto con questi gruppi informali. Qual’è il risultato? Una ricetta per la buona architettura.

Scrap Materialism in Architecture
An informal talk with:

Universities, precarious workers, cooperatives, independent assemblies, architecture studios, freelance builders, social centers and collectives meet to work on a project. What do we have in common? Matter. Every year the big international events produce tons of brand new scrap material that cannot be reintroduced in our mart-world due to laws and bureaucracy. Breathtaking installations become trash after few months of life. What’s a solution? Being against from within. Small independent groups find a way to access the institutions and start an on-site para-institutional research to get rid of the capitalistic demolition factory. On the other side, invited artists and architects take an active part in the process and decide to create a connection with these informalactivities. What’s the result? A recipe for a good architecture.

Un corpo, lo spazio, il confine. Un rapporto di ripensamento delle reciproche distanze tramite il corpo che con la sua presenza sovverte il limite.
Embodying: incorporare, mescolare più elementi fondendoli insieme, ma anche attirare a sé e convertire le sostanze.
